Территория бывшего завода «Красный треугольник», составляющая целый квартал на Обводном канале, на мой взгляд, — характерное явление постсоветского времени. Бывший когда-то передовым производителем шин и синтетического каучука завод после развала советского союза был разделён на несколько частей. Эти части на сегодняшний день развиваются неравномерно и стихийно: где-то все ещё функционируют меньшие заводы, какие-то помещения сдаются в аренду, а бо’льшая часть территории не используется вовсе. Сочетая четкие линии и живописные пятна, я хотела передать специфику этого места. Долгие годы запустения обнажили чистую форму и конструкцию, которые определяют лишь внешний облик бывшего промышленного объекта, функционально завод используется по-новому. В данный момент этой территории присуща своеобразная витальность. Пока нет централизованного управления, квартал живет особой жизнью: здесь собираются музыканты и художники, хаотично возникают бизнес-проекты, одни из которых процветают уже много лет, а другие вынужденно закрываются... Возможно, совсем скоро эта часть города преобразится: уже сейчас возникают девелоперские проекты по реконструкции территории завода. Поэтому хочется уловить и передать своеобразие «Красного треугольника» на пороге изменений.

The territory of the former production plant “Red triangle” which occupies the whole quarter in the Obvodniy Kanal district, to my mind, is a very typical phenomenon of the post-soviet time. It used to be among the top manufacturers of tires and synthetic rubber but soon after the USSR collapse it was divided into several parts. The development of these parts today follows a very uneven and unsustainable path: some buildings get leased, but most of the territory is not used at all. Combining precise lines and oddly added stains I wanted to express the specific features of this place. Long years of desolation have displayed the pure forms and constructions, which determine the exterior outlook of the former production plant. Functionally, the plant is now used in a new way. At the moment the territory possesses the features of vitality. There is no centralized management yet, the quarter lives its distinctive life: it is the place where musicians and artists gather together, where new business projects occur in a chaotic manner. Some of them prosper for years, while others shut down. Probably in a matter of time this part of the city will transform dramatically: even now environmentalists come up with the reconstruction projects of the plant territory. And this is exactly the reason why I feel a strong wish to express the unique features of the “Red Triangle” at the edge of the changes that are yet to come.
