Sergey Tchoban about the art of architectural drawing (Video from the exhibition "Architecture of the Year/Museum for the Drawing, ARCHMOSCOW 2013). English translation of the Sergey Chobans speech is under the video-box) :

«Practice of drawing gives the chance «to remember» architecture «by hand» – spaces, volumes, details. For young architect it is opportunity to understand, what architecture is pleasant to him in general, opportunity to fall in love with it at the earliest stage of training. Drawing concepts, sketches and imaginations which can turn into projects later, author experiments with different ideas, he is free, and he not only analyzes architecture, but perceives it by means of feelings and displays the perception on paper. Drawing on a computer essentially differs from drawing by a hand as it grows out of analytical process. Handdrawing assumes the mass of accidents which are results of skill. I consider, at first it is necessary to think, and then to do something on a computer. Though technologies develop so quickly that one day we, probably, will test on ourselves absolutely other chain: a thought will be transferred to computer in wireless way, passing all flat surfaces. But then drawing as a work of art will disappear as many musical instruments disappeared in due time. And if it happens so, it will be a pity. Today, comparing ready buildings and those sketches which were made by great masters, it is possible to tell that drawings sometimes even are more interesting because buildings became decrepit, they maybe werent programmed for such term of aging, and drawings still look fresh, and ideas reflected in them are still actual ».
